An Interview with Kevin Levrone, Bodybuilder

Hello everyone, and welcome to my first interview. The interview series will welcome professionals I admire for their professional or personal achievements. Today, I had the pleasure of talking to Kevin Levrone, a professional IFBB bodybuilder, IFBB Hall of Famer, musician, blogger, my dear friend, and fellow associate.

Kevin began his professional IFBB career in 1991 and completed 68 IFBB professional contests over the years. It’s safe to say that during the 90s and 2000s, Levrone was one of the biggest names in the industry. He has won 23 pro shows, holding the record for the most wins as an IFBB professional until 2004.

While Kevin stopped competing in 2003, he never officially retired. On the contrary, he took time off and dedicated it to doing something different. He went through injuries and surgeries, played sports, acted in several films, and released an online training platform and a supplement line, “Kevin Levrone Signature Series.”

Then, in the last few years, Kevin has made a remarkable comeback. He appeared in the Mr. Olympia contest in 2016 at 51 by a special invite. He had only five months to prepare and managed to place 17th. Including this performance, Kevin has been in 13 Mr. Olympia competitions, earning the nickname “The Uncrowned King of Mr. Olympia.” Finally, Kevin performed at the Arnold Classic Australia competition in 2016, his last competition.

Levrone’s success follows him to this day when he is already an established icon and a motivation for many people who want to follow in his footsteps. I have met Kevin, and he is my inspiration as well. So, without further ado, let’s start with the interview.

    Tose Zafirov

    Mr. Olympia Representative

    Tose Zafirov:

Hello, Kevin, and thank you for taking the time to do this interview with me. Before we begin, would you mind introducing yourself to our audience and telling them more about yourself?

    Kevin Levrone:

Thank you. Kevin Levrone here. I believe in God, I believe in helping people, and I am very thankful and grateful to be here in Macedonia.

    Tose Zafirov:

You are one of the world’s most sought-after male bodybuilding/fitness models. You inspire many individuals in this industry while being a respectable role model. So, what led you to begin a career in this field?

    Kevin Levrone:

I wished to be healthy, to live a long life, and to have self-respect. Many people do not care for themselves, but I wanted to look my best, even as a child.

    Tose Zafirov:

Next, would you mind telling me more about your bodybuilding background? More precisely, what trophies have you won? Furthermore, what has been your most memorable moment in the sport?

    Kevin Levrone:

My best moment in the sport was most likely every moment I competed as a professional. I never imagined that my life would turn out the way it has in the sport of bodybuilding. But I believe every moment spent preparing for contests was a valuable lesson learned, something I’ll always cherish and remember.

    Tose Zafirov:

I am a fan of the Kevin Levrone supplements and use them daily. So, can you please share something more regarding the brand and the idea behind it?

    Kevin Levrone:

The brand Kevin Levrone is a signature series of supplements. All my career, I wanted to make something available to the people, a supplement that mimics my career in a straightforward way – no-nonsense and honest. It was my dream to leave this behind after competing.

So this is something I wanted to give the people; the entire knowledge and education that I’ve learned through the industry about supplements. I wanted to put it into the Levrone Signature Series, and I feel that we accomplished this.

    Tose Zafirov:

In your opinion, what separates a champion from a non-champion, and why?

    Kevin Levrone:

It’s mental, though. A champion has to believe in himself, a champion has to stand by his decisions, and a champion also has to have the visualization to be able to separate moments, plow through good and bad, no matter what it is, and just never quit and never give up.

As I said, a champion must believe in himself and know it is up to him. Don’t ever rely on anyone to do anything else for you.

A great champion is a great warrior from the inside out. He always stands strong and firm. He knows who he is and is 100% ready to commit to his goal.

    Tose Zafirov:

I’m sure training and work take up most of your time. But what hobbies and interests do you have to keep your life balanced?

    Kevin Levrone:

Life is about balance, and I believe that how I feel is how I live. I try to spend a lot of time alone, and meditation balances me. I focus on the future, but I always remember the past and where I came from. My parents are no longer here, so remembering them and my childhood keeps me balanced and allows me to remember where I come from and to be a good father to my son moving forward.

So, I think these are the things that keep me rooted.

    Tose Zafirov:

What training and nutrition methods produced the best bodybuilding results for you? Can you describe your training sessions and routines briefly?

    Kevin Levrone:

I developed the training and nutrition by spending time with myself. All of my training formulas are custom. I train all pushing and pulling muscles together. I do a three-on, one-off routine. I also try to complete one body part in 45 minutes, not longer. I go into the gym with a goal and a focus, and I already know what I’m going to do when I walk in, and it’s on a time clock.

So, this is my training. I do this with every body part. However, I listen to my body. If I don’t feel like training that day, I don’t push it.

Nutrition is the same. My nutrition is based on how my body feels. I have an overall caloric intake composition that I know I need. However, depending on the workload I put on my body in the gym, I determine what my body can digest at that moment, along with rest and recovery.

So, it’s essentially three combinations – training, rest and recovery, and nutrition.

    Tose Zafirov:

Your overall achievement and progress are an inspiration. So, do you consider yourself strong-minded? Furthermore, how has your mind influenced your life? Also, can you tell us what your daily source of motivation is? At last, who is your biggest supporter?

    Kevin Levrone:

I think my daily motivation source is knowing that I have responsibilities. Not for myself, but I believe God has given me a great opportunity to do positive things and help other people. So, I look forward to this, and it’s what motivates me to continue moving through all of my challenges - because it’s not just for me.

It’s a lesson learned and something I will always remember to pass forward. Never quit, never give up, and never lose, no matter how long it takes, because bad times don’t last forever.

Every day we learn a lesson, and I look forward to meeting people wherever I go around the world, no matter what form of society they come from; whether it’s the rich, the poor, or the homeless, it can all be a lesson learned, every second and every aspect of it.

    Tose Zafirov:

Are you currently training for anything? Also, do you have any job ambitions for the future, and where do you see yourself in, say, five years?

    Kevin Levrone:

I’m always in life training. Every day in life brings something new, so I look forward to that. That is my training.

My plans for the future are to be a great father and a good role model for my son. To structure his life and to let him know his responsibilities as a young man growing up.

Also, I want to reach back and be a father to my fans who don’t have fathers out there, be a brother to my bodybuilding brothers who don’t have brothers, and be a loyal and good servant for the better mankind and every country, no matter where I am.

    Tose Zafirov:

Finally, do you have anything to say to everyone who wants to follow in your footsteps? Also, can you please share one piece of advice that has proven valuable to you?

    Kevin Levrone:

Just trust and believe in yourself. Trust and believe in your instincts, and don’t be afraid to spend time alone. When I say spend time alone, I refer to the fact that you will learn many things about yourself that way.

Also, don’t involve yourself in anything negative. Focus on good energy, and always spend some time with nature. Spend some time praying and spend some time listening to your six senses. This is the best advice that I can possibly give you.

    Final Words

Thank you very much for your honest and inspiring answers, Kevin. I wish you all the best in all your future endeavors; to be as successful as up until now, and possibly more.
